The MicroSquirt has long been the go-to choice for a low-cost yet highly capable standalone ECU. Originally designed for powersports, ATVs, and motorcycles, it quickly proved itself in a wide range of applications—from golf carts to turbocharged V8 race cars.
As customers pushed the limits, they often required modifications to support more demanding setups. To meet those needs, we’ve introduced the AMP’d MicroSquirt, a customized version built specifically for automotive use. This updated unit is tougher, more flexible, and easier to install across a variety of engines.
Why Choose AMP’d MicroSquirt?
It comes down to three things:
-
Ease of Installation – Built-in features eliminate the need for external resistors or wiring hacks.
-
Flexibility – Configured to work with more sensors, ignition types, and injectors out of the box.
-
Durability – Improved injector drivers, better flyback protection, and hardened circuits for demanding applications.
We recommend the AMP’d MicroSquirt over the standard unit in these scenarios:
-
Running 6 injectors in the 8–10 ohm range, or 8+ injectors
-
6- or 8-cylinder distributorless ignition applications (wasted spark made easy)
-
4-cylinder sequential coil-on-plug ignition
-
Fuel-only installs triggered from the coil negative
Hardware Features
The AMP’d MicroSquirt includes everything that made the original popular, plus key improvements designed for automotive builds.

Highlighted AMP’d upgrades are in bold.
-
2 high impedance injector outputs – max peak current increased to 19 amps
-
2 dedicated spark outputs
-
2 general-purpose on/off outputs – re-purposable as spark outputs with switchable pull-ups
-
1 PWM IAC output – can be re-purposed as a general output
-
1 dedicated fuel pump output
-
2 variable reluctor (VR) conditioned inputs – with switchable pull-ups for crank/cam trigger compatibility
-
1 optoisolated RPM input – max voltage/current increased for coil-negative fuel-only setups
-
1 flex fuel or general-purpose switched input
-
7 analog inputs

Why It Matters
The AMP’d MicroSquirt is built from real-world experience, shaped by how enthusiasts and racers actually use the product. Whether it’s a turbo Miata, LS swap, or boosted daily driver, the AMP’d edition delivers the spark control, injector handling, and hardened circuits needed to push performance without sacrificing reliability.
This isn’t just a “budget ECU.” It’s a proven, compact, and flexible controller that punches far above its weight class.
