Will I need to add a pullup to use this sensor?

  • Yes, you must add a voltage pullup; this sensor does not have a pullup built in.

How does this sensor differ from the previous threaded Hall effect sensor you sold?

  • This one is made by a different manufacturer. While the size is the same, this one has a much larger temperature range and does not require quite so close a sensor gap. It also requires a pull up resistor, as noted above.

The sensor came with a resistor – what are the specs on the resistor?

  • We now supply them with a 1K ohm, 1/4 watt resistor for use with 5 volt supply voltage.

This sensor does not have red or white wires. The colors are coded as follows:

Brown – Supply voltage; connect to either VREF for 5 volt operation or 12 volt switched power.

Black – Output signal. On a MegaSquirt, connects to pin 24. We just set our MegaSquirt up for the VR conditioner and it works great. V3.0 MicroSquirts can also do this, but older MicroSquirts will need to use the Hall effect input. Note that this one requires a pull up resistor. This tees into both the supply voltage and the output signal wire. Use a 1K resistor (now included with the package) when powering it with 5 volts or a 2.4K resistor when powering it with 12 volts.

    Blue – Ground.

Our supplier recommends using a 2.4K ohm, 1/4 watt resistor if using a 12 volt pull up.

Set the V3.0 board up for the VR input circuit - it works great with Hall effect sensors too.
