Description

The IGN-6 ‘wasted spark’ style coil pack at a glance could be mistaken for a stock Chrysler ignition coil, perhaps off of a Dodge Intrepid, but it’s not. Though it appears to be molded from the same tooling used to make stock replacement coils for some Mopar products, and would bolt right up to many LH platform cars and minivans — inside, you’ll find a much hotter winding. This coil pack can deliver up to 58 mJ per spark if you have a hot enough ignition module to drive it. Use with HEI type plug wire boots.

This coil also has a handy set of plug wire numbers stamped on it. These numbers are correct for a 1-2-3-4-5-6 or 1-6-5-4-3-2 firing order (many V6s; this coil was originally designed as an upgrade for Buick V6s). If you have an engine with a different firing order, such as most inline sixes (or different cylinder numbering), you will have to change the wires to match. For example, if you have a 1-5-3-6-2-4 order (most inline sixes), you’d pair the wires 1-6, 5-2, 3-4.

Here is the connector pinout, viewing the connector from the top, looking down at the pins. Connect “B+” to switched 12 volt power; do not feed it voltage with the key off.

MISSION CRITICAL: If you are using this coilpack with our QuadSpark ignition module, your Spark Output setting in your Ignition Options / Wheel Decoder menu must be set to “Going High”. Getting this setting wrong will result in severe damage to both your QuadSpark and IGN-6 coilpack. Please contact us if you are unsure about this setting.

Use a 3.4 ms dwell, 2.8 ms spark duration, and cranking dwell can be slightly higher depending on the voltage drop during cranking.

  4. I am trying to run the IGN-6 six tower coil pack on my 87 E30 straight 6 with the MS PNP Gen 2. I have the quad spark conected to the 14 pin spark D, 15 pin spark C, 16 pin spark B, 17 pin spark A. The park that I am having turbol with is how to conect the quad spark to the coil. The coil has pin B+ pin 3-6 pin 1-4 and pin 5-2 the quad spark has 4 wires but no power. Witch wires go where to make the firing order corect and will the quad spark work for a 6 cilinder.

B+ is the power wire (battery positive, although it should be switched 12 volts rather than wired directly to the battery). Keep in mind that the numbers are marked for a V6 firing order and not an inline six. The spark output A on a straight six should fire cylinders 1 and 6, B should fire 5 and 2, and C fires 3 and 4.

  6. What type of plug do you use to go into the coil body. The 4 pins B+, 3-6, 1-4, 5-2. I got the coil from you guys but can't find a 4 pin out tail. Can you help.

Yes, this one requires an external ignition module, like our QuadSpark. We currently do not have a 6 tower coil with built in ignition modules.
